Ok, here's a little "preveiw" of part of this project. These guys are quite important to the backstory, but unfortunatly aren't really main characters (the main characters of the story haven't been born when this "photo" was taken)

I know the shading is a little duff, but I inked it on paper, something I'm not going to do with the actual strip where I'm hoping to get a tablet to speed it up a little and make it easier to do a decent page fast.

Medic Fuchs - 8 years old

Lieutenant Colwell - 20 years old

Private Louise - 3 months old

Private O'Donnell - 2 years old

Private Watkins - 4 years old

Sergeant Jessup - 9 years old

20 years old? That guy is a dying lupine! I love this picture. Looking forward to your story... heck if possible I might enjoy making them 3d given time...

I like it.
One thing though: that smoke and those picket window thingies just look odd compared comic characters.
Now I don't know how all this digital art stuff works, but is it possible to surround everything in the background with small black lines, so that it doesn't contrast the characters or hand-drawn stuff too much?

Its a man's life... er... dog's life in the postmodern US army :-P

Seriously though, I like it. Can't wait to see what you do with these characters.

Haha, well Lupines actually live as long as most people. I'll go into the specifics later on, but the "Warrior Stock" lupines that were grown for the war aged a lot slower than those born naturally afterwards. In effect, it wasn't uncommon for post-war ex-solider Lupine couples to have kids that were only two years younger than themselves.

The warrior-bred lupines live for on average, 80 years, which is the same as their naturally born offspring.

The background isn't going to be like that in the comic, don't worry...that was just a quick thing I did to put them in context. The backgrounds are going to be "sketched" out with a graphic's tablet (when I get one) as this stuff would take too long to sketch, draw, ink, and colour manually.

I was considering using a photograph of the location I want this picture to have been taken (outside the Air Canada Stadium with the CN Tower in the background) but I couldn't find one with the right angle...plus, they all had pictures of happy people in them, and when I draw it Toronto is going to be war-torn (sorry Niner)

Well, you did already establish something to that effect. Besides, it wouldn't be the first time T.O. was war-torn...

Also, it's called the "Air Canada Centre", if you're wondering, though I'd say the SkyDome er, Rogers Centre works better, if you want the CN Tower in the background. Image

Ohhhh...the dreaded ACC.

Looking good Rooster. Like Comrade, I'm not a fan of the background, but the characters look awesome. I'm hyped for the story!

But... as warriors, wouldn't they be more likely than others to die before old age?

Probably but you never know when a war is going to strike so you want them to have a long shelf-life.

I like it Roo.

The background/foreground diffrences don't bother me much apart from the whole digital looking computery images/colouring. But you know Im not a fan of those, don't mind me too much.

Yeah, but they were bred for other purposes too, and at the end of WW3 there are about 750 million of them alive...Plus, this "picture" is taken about three months before the end of the war...their unit used to be 20 strong.

I'm assuming they're like the cannon-fodder of the US Army.

3 months old?!
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

I know, but even so...
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...
