How do you do it?

Would it be impolite of me to ask to start a thread here on how most of you Draw?

My point here is this...Im always fishing for ideas on how to improve my art. I, in no way claim to be a great artist, I just draw to relax and have a little fun at the same time. And it would be nice to gather ideas and see the different ways people use to construct drawings or just doodle and have fun with a pencil.

So if you feel like it, just leave a few comments here or whatever. Im sure we could learn a few things from each other.

I'll jot down a few ideas soon...right now I have a headache that needs to be remedied.

well when i draw i start from the feet first. then i work my way up.

I start from the head down. Shoulders are my big problem. I can't get the upper body to look right, it feels sort of disjointed when I draw. But I'm working on it. This might be a cliche, but it really is good to have a basic knowledge of anatomy. Even if your drawing style is far from realistic it's easier to break the rules when you know them.

I think the most important parts are the face and hands. Most of the time comic characters express themselves visually through those parts. They're concentrated on the most.

Once I find someone with a scanner I'll show you mine.

I don't really try to draw well. I don't plan on it being a big thing, so I do it whenever I'm bored.
My drawings are all anime charicters that I made on my own time. Most drawn on lined paper and printer paper with a no.2 pencil.
As for my method, when I started, I had to began with the circle and cross approach. Over time, I got pretty good at drawing eyes, so now I do them first and make the face and outline from there. As for the body, I never really tried to make my charicters do anything more than wave or something.
I suck at anything other than forward views, and havent really attempted more than one charicter.

Dunno why I've typed all this really, I just sorta depressed myself. I'll get to the library at some point and get these crapsterpeices online.

ok ive NEVER used the circle and cross thingy ( i never even heard of it till the "Flashy-Thingy" thread by octan) and i drew that image b4 i came to the forum

i never have and probly never will use the circle and cross unless im drawing a face portrait (which i hate doing, i need to have some part of the body thier too)

If you really want to know...

I first draw the eyes to give me an idea of how the head will look. I draw the head, then draw the neck and the shoulders. I draw the sides of the chest to give the body shape and then draw the arms. I usually add the legs last.

Probably a bad way to draw but it works for me *shrug*

I always start with the hair or ears, only if it's anthro though. I wish my scanner worked so I could show my more recent images.

The best way to explain my technique is to just show you. Here is a self-proclaimed "tutorial" (as luck would have it, it turned out to be one of by crappier drawings, horribly out-of-proportion) that I did a few months back that basically lays out my modus operandi: Clickie!

First, music is most important. I have a condition where my hands shake terribly when I write or draw (due to a heart condition... long story). Music seems to calm it, mainly because my mind becomes preoccupied with it, I believe.

But, first I start with the eyes, then the muzzle, hair, ears, and the remainder of the head. Next comes the "skeleton" of the body, then the body itself. Ink and coloring come later, typically.
