I think that you people are forgetting the clean half of the gag about him being a hare krishna?
Uhhh... there's quite a difference between Buddhism and Hare Krishna. I don't think Christians and Muslims would much like being mistaken for each other either, even though they're both monotheistic and "People of the Book."
I didn't look at the strip, and thought that people had made reference to the strip calling him a Hare Krishna instead of a Buddhist. My apologies. And, what's the difference between Muslims and Christians?
You are joking right?

If you are serious:

Christians believe the Jesus is/was the son of god where as Muslims believe he was just a prophet. Thats one pretty major difference.

oh yeah but I mean other than that, what's their difference? does one or the other insert both legs into a pair of pants in one motion? or does one or the other possess the ability to run cars on hydrogen fuel, and then separate the hydrogen from the oxygen again, release the clean oxygen into the air, and then use that hydrogen again? Does one eat socks?

Actually, I was joking.

Through vigorous study of the Bible I have concluded that Christians don't believe in: gravity, evolution, Willie Wonka, pants, violence, or other religions.

There's a lot of similarities between Judaism, Islam and Christianity because of the close geographical promixity with which those religions developed in. It was inevitable that they would borrow and be influenced by each other in a state like that.

Judaism is the earliest known one, and Christianity is considered a continuation of Christianity and a fulfillment of Jewish prophecy. Islam is an amalgamation of different aspects of Judeo-Christian thought with other ideas incorporated.

I think you meant Christianity is considered a continuation of Judaism, even though Jews don't consider Jesus the messiah. Was you comment from a Christian viewpoint?

And the similarities go much further than that. They reflect similar principles. They all believe in one supreme deity (yes, there is the Christian Trinity, but you know what I mean). They all adhere to holy scriptures that are either the direct word of God or were given by God to prophets. There is a belief in some form of second-coming by God or the messiah. All three believe in an afterlife and a subsequent judgement of men of some kind. They have a holy day of the week. A law against certain foods are practiced. Circumcision and baptism are similar and common rituals. There's definitely more as one goes into the details of these major points, but that's not for now.

I don't get why people say that they have similar gods, they have the same god. The bible even uses the first five books of Judaism. I don't see the point in saying that they're similar because they all share Jewish beliefs since they're essentially expansion packs to Judaism. (And no I'm not claiming them to be the same this time)

@ Jack: yeah, I did mean continuation of Judaism, and yes I am coming from a Christian viewpoint (take that as you will). If you look at it in a slightly cockeyed way, Christianity is the world's largest sect of Judaism! *dodges rocks*

And yes, the similarities do go deeper, but with C and J it's not really surprising considering they use much of the same theology. (It's sacriligeous, but I think of C/J as a play where the Jewish people left after the first act.)

You can stop right there, I'm a Christian believe in all of them. :p

Except Willy Wonka. Everyone knows that's just a dumb theory.

As for fundamental differences between Islam and Christianity, Christianity's main "point" is that the God of the universe who created you wants to have a relationship with you, so much so He sent His only Son to die for your sins.

I can't speak for Islam, except that some extremests (read: they claim to follow it but the main religious body would disagree) claim to follow Allah's will by blowing up shopping malls.

I don't go to church, nor have I read the bible. I beleive there is some kind of god, and people like Muhammed, (sp?) Jesus, Moses, and others were born and became great teachers and idealists. Perhaps some greater being spoke to them and told them his will. Personally, I prefer to let life come and go. Whatever afterlife I find I'm probably stuck with so let it be.
I do also beleive in evolution and Willie Wonka. Gravity of course is a total myth.
