I like BBC 1, 2, 4 and sometimes 3. It's rather strange that my two most watched channels at the moment are Channel 4 and CBBC. But then. Channel 4 are showing Deal or No Deal, and CBBC are showing the best children's television show since Knightmare, namely Raven. Both of which are on every weekday. And DoND is also on on Saturdays. Oh, and C4 are showing Space Cadets, which is entertaining enough.

ITV3 is far better than ITV1 definitely ITV2. ITV4 is it's only competition on the ITV channels, and only because ITV4 shows good sci-fi like The Champions and First Wave. But as a whole the ITV channels are fairly useless. Well, they do have the occasional good gameshow and very rare good drama (which is why ITV3 is the best of the lot, since it only shows dramas. Unfortunately they're all repeats on ITV3).

...I think I started rambling there...

The British TV system just plain baffles me. All I know is that the broadcast networks are all called BBC and are government owned, and that cable stations are private. And that you can get some American shows on cable there.

Oh, and that you have a "channel 1." I envy you greatly for having a channel 1.

Actually, the BBC is publicly funded to provide public service broadcast, not government owned. Very important distinction there.

Out of the five terrestrial (that is, analogue channels delivered via the arial) channels, two are bbc, and are publicly owned channels, one is ITV, which is commercial. One is channel 5, which is commercial, and one is Channel 4 which... While publicly owned is commercial (iirc with Channel 4)

There are also the digital channels, the sky channels, the cable channels. Quite a few of which overlap. Some of the digital channels are non-subscription and transmitted via the arial, but you need a digibox in order to recieve them. Of these free digital channels... 8 are BBC (including the two regular BBC channels), 4 are ITV (including the one...), 2 are Channel 4 (including the one) and one is channel 5 (including the one) there are other channels which were originally sky channels until Freeview came about as well.

As for ITV - it was merged a few years ago into a unified ITV. Except for making programs, Granada, Yorkshire, LWT, Thames, etc no longer exist as far as I'm aware.

It's pretty much restricted to a few classrooms. Oh, and for all its educational focus, it's not above commercials for noneducational video games and such.
