Good luck with this.
I wonder if it'll finally get it's own forum too. I've always wanted a place online where I can talk about O&M.

There was really no need for Harris County to evacuate from the storm itself. The hurricane moved WAY north. Sure, there were wind gusts that knocked down some thin trees and some fences. But as for the rain, there was hardly any. No flooding whatsoever that I'm aware of. Still, I say better safe than sorry.
However, it was good for the evacuees regarding the power situation. After over a day, there are still locations without power.
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

Tavis is back home, too, and was on Second Life briefly last night, so he should be back on DC soon

Thank you all for your well-wishing, and for those of you who had kept contact with me while I was gone. The storm didn't do much damage around Pasadena; there were many places covered with fallen branches, but very little damage to homes and cars. At any rate, I think we were still rather lucky since one of the branches fell where dad's car would have been parked. Even without that, I'm sure mom would have felt shaken to hear the other large branch that landed on our roof.

A quick look around other nearby neighborhoods turned up one blown away car port and some roof damage to one home. All but two homes in our own neighborhood lost power (ours and our next-door neighbors'). Since we were prepared to weather the storm initially, we still had plenty of water and a couple power supplies (battery backup/UPS) to share. It was the least we could do for them considering they stayed behind and were considerate enough to let us know the neighborhood was okay before we went home.

Oh, after I got home, I found out UHCL is closed until Thursday, which means I don't have classes until next Monday.

Oh yeah, I'm alright.

The trip there was long, but not as long as most others'... my brother managed to get his girlfriend, myself and mom to San Antonio in 8 hours, dad brought Mystic, my sister's cat, with him; he took only 12 hours. A normal trip would have taken about 4 hours, but evacuation traffic held up some people for nearly a day.

Gas shortages were a problem, as were places we could stop to use the bathroom. I waited half an hour at one before finding out someone ahead of me clogged up the toilet, leaving it to flood the bathroom. Fortunately I didn't have to go that urgently.

Well, at any rate, good to see you back and to hear nothing major happened in the time while you were gone ^^
