You know, as much as we lament the present state of comic strips, I find that past ones were about as likely to repeat themselves. "Krazy Kat" is a notorious example. "Pogo," which I usually like, did slight variations on its botched Christmas carol year after year. And in its last decade, "Peanuts" repeated itself more directly than almost any other cartoon in my lifetime.
