Republican BS affecting the music industry

Here's a good artical posted on MxPx.com from Campus Circle about the final straws as to why the band left the mainstream record companies for an extremely small one. Surprisingly one of the reasons they hinted to was all the stuff about terrorism, and how they'd be hypocrites saying not to be afraid of what could harm you if they started walking around with 3 billion bodygaurds.

scanned artical on MxPx.com
MxPx.com entry page

Being admitted Christians in the American Music industry, and being slated for the pop charts by A&M, A&M thought they needed higher security. They drew the line, as it went against their principals to be distanced from their fans like that. They already were getting pretty pissed at all of Universal records, as they continually got the wrong promo deals, at all three sub-devisions they were at: Tooth and Nail, Fat Wreck Chords, and A&M.

On the down side, they have far less of a promotion budget, but on the pluss side this really separates the Wheat from the Chaff and shows when someone isn't a sell-out. Also, although they have less funds, they do get more attention from their new company, and their new company is giving them far more creative freedom.

Of course, the artical only gets the surface value of the meaning of The Darkest Places and I Heard That Sound, but you can listen to the songs yourself to determine that, if you really listen with your heart, and not your ears you'll quite clearly understand just how deep these two songs are. They have never even had singles released of their deeper songs until now. This is actually quite amazing that they finally got an opertunity to do this BEFORE releasing the other singles and the album

Man, I love MxPx. There was a band over here that most US dwellers woun't have heard of called Vex Red.

Now Vex Red were on the verge of becomming very, very big in the UK underground scene when their american label decided to try putting them into the charts. After two un-noticed singles, and half their fanbase saying that they had sold out and deserting the band, they split. Even worse, the label kept most of the profits from the album.

They now call themselves Septembre, but no-one is really listening anymore as they've moved on. It was a real tragedy.

I still can't believe they finally went through on that threat to sign with an indie company. I guess it wasn't an idle threat. Punks generally don't make idle threats when being thought out, just when they're enraged.

I can't wait to pick up my copy. I should check if their making a vinyl release too. I got one of my father's old record players. (We picked them up cheap when they were on sale at Radio Shack when they were cutting production. They're top of the line models, tachometers on the spindle and everything.) Punk comes out great on vinyl. It isn't as subject to the High Frequency interferance Vinyl is known for.
