well, it's currently in between a server switch and it doesn't have the archives up, so wait until it's on the new servers if you want to, but it's been going almost nonstop since 1998 and I wasn't kidding when I said a long time. it's really easy to just get in mid storyline anyway, and it's rather entertaining once you're in to it.

DCS should've ended the comic a year or two ago.

Updates for new comics are irregular (they may have a schedule I've missed though, they have a new comic up at least once a month) but rest assured, it's not a dead site. Go look over it if you want to see a comic that has influenced David Simpson (probably), Mell Lazarus, Garry Trudeau and Bill Watterson.

I only listed comics I read online (you could have asked me the same question about Peanuts probably), I could have said others like Krazy Kat, Calvin and Hobbes or The Far Side, but I don't check them out on the internet.
It kinda varies for me, but at the moment just Jack (which I won't link to here in case any young 'uns are on this forum) and Carpe Diem. Used to have a list as long as my arm a few years back...

Comics I don't read online, well, Doctor Who Monthly has a comic strip in it, and I read Crashlander, which is in Edge (and limited archives are available at www.crashlander.com)

Whew, I haven't been around for a while...

I second the Mynarski Forest one, and if you're looking at geeky rather then furry Penny Arcade and Angst Technology rock.

But my big obsession right now though is the Cyantian Chronicles:
http://cyantian.net/

Despite the fact it's not as humourous as most furry comics, has a complex, slow moving, and often weird plot that doesn't fully make sense without a second read through, and sometimes needs some proofreading it's still got me hooked. I contribute it to good artwork combined with some intriguing story elements and characters.

I should note that it's actually six seperate comics, which overlap in plot. I recommend starting at the beginning of Akaelae (on the main page), then make your own choice on where to go once you've read that. Make sure you catch Campus Safari at some point, though, though, it's easy to miss it's link and it's the storyline that connects the other five stories together. It probably won't all make sense at first, so don't hesitate to ask me question if you want to know what's going on.
