http://www.worldjumpday.org/

Wow... um... okay. Don't think it would work that way.
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

Yet more proof that there are phenomenal idiots out there. Maybe several multi-megaton nuclear explosions at a certain point could do it. But likely not. Besides, if the earth were to into a higher orbit, it would experience a massive cooling effect, which would likely cause several species of plants and animals to die because of an inability to adapt quicly enough.

I'd like to see their "scientific research." Mainly so I can laugh at them for being idiots and calling themselves scientists. Oh, so they have some "evidence" on their website. Their website. If you want credibility, get several independent researchers.

Oh, and I'm sick and tired of people who ignore the fact that "global warming" is actually part of a natural heating-cooling cycle that the earth goes through. True, it has been exagerrated somewhat with human industry, but still.

I just lost more hope for the human race.

Hehee, says at their site if they get 600 million people to jump, it'll work. *snrrk* It's hard enough to organize *600* people.
I love how even if what they say is true, they get 300 million on each side of the planet to simply pressure the core of the planet rather then move it. Not like getting that many people to jump will work anyways.

Blaak, it might be a good idea, if the world gets a different orbit and collides with the sun or something and we all die, then that'll solve everyone's problems won't it?

Or... not... ish.

Oddly enough, the problem still doesn't work. Jumping from the planet's surface will not produce a net accelleration unless you can escape the pull of its gravity. The entire time those 300 million people are airborne, they are pulling the earth toward them. The center of mass will move with the jumpers, but will return to its original position right when they land.

Now, if they want to change Earth's orbit, the most effective way would be to round up all the dumb fools and fire them out rocket cannons toward the sun. The center of mass will still follow the same orbit, only that mass of sunburned folk will count too.
