It MIGHT be that Llewellyn teachers teach more than one grade at a time, spanning K-12 grades...but a question nonetheless.

2: Ozy surviving the mercury fumes from Isolde's soak? Having Ozy die wouldn't be the best resolution, but im bringing all these questions up academically; im not expecting a plot/strip change AT ALL. So please don't yell at me for not appreciating the strips; as I said, I like pointing inconsistancies out As Felix put it, i have nothing better to contribute (if you call it that). If only I didn't live in a military base, I'd be doing something else, like making dry ice bombs or such to pass the time

3: Llewellyn ordering a bowling ball/shoe in a Chinese resturant in a failed attempt at speaking the theme language, while successfully ordering for Ms. Mudd in another?
http://www.ozyandmillie.org/2000/om2000 ...
http://www.ozyandmillie.net/2001/om2001 ... >

4: How do the cushions not get sucked up in The Vortex of Ozy's couch?

5: What part of Millie WOULD change color in this strip? (Okok, the color was for artistic exaggeration; again, academically only)
http://www.ozyandmillie.org/2003/om2003 ... >

6: Snoring really is heard when you inhale, so why does Llewellyn breathe fire as he does so? Is this a "dragon thing"?
http://www.ozyandmillie.org/2000/om2000 ... >

7: (Getting into questions with no real answer) Why does Ozy prefer a black vest? Something to do with Llewellyn's wardrobe influence?

8: Can Llewellyn or Isolde FLY?

I've posted a few links to relevant strips, however, I don't get TOO much time to search (read most of the strips over winter vacation) anymore.

Ok, let me answer with logic (maybe some people will be satisfied with that)

1. Having the same teachers every year isn't that strange. I don't know about America but it's common elsewhere. Furthermore since the characters don't age, there's no indication or reason that they should actually progress to the next grade. If Ozy and Millie were like For Better or For Worse or Gasoline Alley then they would grow up (physically I mean) and so forth.

2. Well, perhaps he's immune, or used to it. If we get really logical we could argue the evidence of whether foxes are affected by mercury fumes. Perhaps Ozy had tiny plugs for his nose like swimmers. But maybe this question doesn't have a serious answer, he just wasn't affected and that was it.

3. Keeping with using logical answers, note that the first strip (the failed attempt) was before the second one (the succesful attempt), from which we can conclude Llewellyn became more fluent in time. But I strongly suspect the true answer is that, simply, the wrong orders were made for the sake of the joke/punchline.

4. What Doog said. It could just be a passage, like the wardrobe in the Narnia series.

5. Well, she's straining herself, so she might have gone a deeper red bordering on purple. She's obviously gasping for air. If I'm not mistaken this strip was coloured in House Rules. Also I always found Millie's outburst in the last panel very funny, especially how she says Felicia.

6. What with the fire, it's obviously a dragon thing. On the technicality, the fire seems to be the result of exhaling (from what little we can see of Llewellyn's mouth), much like we might exhale air, and Ozy's comment on snoring might refer to both the intake and outake as a whole.

7. Why does any comic/cartoon character prefer the clothes we associate with them? Why does Linus wear a stripped shirt? Why does Asterix always wear the same attire? Why does Fred Flintstone always have the same clothes? Top Cat, Animaniacs, Newshounds, Offisa Pup, Rodger the Dodger, Li'l Abner, Yosemite Sam etc. The artist decided he/she wanted/liked that character like that.

8. There was a strip where Llewellyn glided or fell from a tree. Until David himself says anything I can't say.

Hope this helps, ye great pursuer of unexplained knowledge.

Ive been to other countries, and have seen a few K-12 classes in mexico/phillipines.

Mercury fumes are absorbed by tissue and causes chemical burns; its EXTREMELY toxic, and I doubt any normal living thing won't be affected. It's not an INSTANTLY killing MEHTUL, but causes significant damage when concentrated (bathroom and a tub of mercury).

Would fur really change due to a lack of oxygen?

Hehe, just wondering what others would think about these.

Er, not to be rude, by why exactly are we discussing the scientific innacuracies of a comic strip that includes (among other things) anthropomorphic, talking animals, dragons and an alternate reality wherein the natural aging process happens in reverse?

Just, uh, wondering, that's all.

well, barring the anthromorph animals, The Vortex and its alternate reality, and having sayings like "windows is sucky", the comic is pretty lifelike (Actually, I prefer windows only because most programs are compatible with it. I'll go Knoppix in a heartbeat if only the masses weren't addicted to window's GUI, but this is a bit of a tangent) Oh, the spelling-bee was a bit outlandish, but hey, this is ACADEMIC. And it's mostly just me really caring about this anyway, so I'll drop it soon and make some other post later

This seems like a comic strip where all you should really be focused on is the text, unless part of the joke is image-related.
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

Shocking people? Just make sure you don't awe them at the same time. The government might consider it plaigarism.
