I findit very interesting that they found a truck full of mercury thermometers that easily, considering the fact that, from what I've heard, they stopped making them years ago. They use something besides mercury now...I'm not at all sure what.

And as for the south park reference....I think that may be intentional.

As to weigh stations, they're all over the place...I believe it's because the heavier your load, the more wear you put on the roads, and the more often they'd need to be repaved, so they charge fees for semi trucks.

If your area is no longer a big trucking route (they change all the time as new distribution points and warehouses and stores are put up or closed down), then you'd have a bunch of largely defunct ones dotting the landscape.

If you check a place like Fisher Scientific, you can order one over the internet, but it probably would run you around $30 for a laboratory thermometer, compared to $20 for a spirit thermometer.

I've used murcury themometers in school. I do think that they are goign more towards electronic thermometers. It is surprising that an ENTIRE TRUCK of mercury themoeters woudl be beign shiped. Probably a short hull form the factory to the wearhouse.

They're not nearly as accurate for numerical readings, but are good for rough and ready estimates!

If anyone here's into making gunpowder (and it wouldn't surprise me) all u gotta do is go to a chemist's and say u dropped a thermometer and need some sulphur. They'll give it to u, cos mercury is poisonous and all, and it goes to mercury sulphate or sulphife, i forget which, but thats completly harmless. Just going in and saying "Give me sulphur!" they'll most likely phone the police.

Digital thermometers are actually quite simple until u get onto the LCD screen (which was invented by a college friend of sum1 i know, inceidently). Its just potential difference, and u can build a really cheap one for ur PC with an LED that lights up when the inside is getting too hot, and if u use a variable resistor then u can set the temperature at which the LED comes on.
The end is nigh!
You're aware that your local secret service is watching you now, after having confessed that you make gunpowder?

You can buy entire sulfer rocks from wherever you buy rocks form (my favorite is pyrite). You woudl then have to grind it yourself.

no such places over here, i think. I haven't really looked. I need to know where to get potassium nitrate from, and I can make some really good stuff, if I cake it and all. And loads of people have mercury thermometers. Its not like they're illegal or anything.

And I havent made any...yet.
The end is nigh!
No such place physically, I think.

..Most are mail order.
