Senator Joe Lieberman recently sponsored a bill that would, and I quote, allow the president to "seize control or even shut down portions of the internet" in times of crisis. The measure is being defended (rather weakly, IMO) with the claim that in the event of an attack it will be necessary to have certain internet providers shut down or stop accepting certain packets from other areas in an emergency situation. Well, guess what, this bill would also create a new cyber-security organization working under Homeland Security that would have command over private companies that rely on the internet, essentially regulating their actions, and could require "information sharing" (read: information about customers' and their private lives)
Yep, it's PATRIOT Act version 2.0. We cannot allow such a blatant power play to succeed and further detract from our freedoms. Please sign the petition here and make your voice heard. We had enough of this crap under Bush, we're not taking any more.

Generally speaking, I oppose most things that Senator Droopy comes up with.

It's not surprising that Senator Palpatine is trying to pass an emergency powers bill.
My gut feeling is that this will be shot down.

I wonder what happened to the promise that the original Patriot Act was going to be repealed?

You can't really just "shut down" the internet, China have been trying it for years.

Dude, it's Lieberman. Don't take anything he says seriously.

I like how Lieberman seems to have so many descriptive alternative names.
But isn't Palpatine the pope now?

Well, I totally stole the Droopy nickname from the Daily Show.

Awesome. In a time of emergency not being able to use the internet to get news and information would be useful

Yes, despite Cardinal Akbar's warning. Don't fret, the Jedi have agents in convents... I believe they call them Bene Gesserit. I've heard they are going to Gom Jabbar him in his sleep. But isn't Palpatine the pope now?
