Arranging Stand Tunes! Please help!

Postby Segovia » Sun Sep 20, 2009 4:20 am

My band Director gave me a chance to arrange some stand tunes for the entire band. So far I finished "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath. I'm still not sure about it. Have any suggestions? (Yes I know I haven't added drums yet. I'm doing that by hand.)

I'm not sure if the link works. My computer is still screwed up.

My first thought is that the repetitive riffing of the guitar on a single chord doesn't translate well into a high school band setting. Does it have to be exactly true to the song? In its place, I would make that repetitive chord just one long chord, and maybe put a melody of your own over that. It'd be good to have some more parts to this arrangement, anyway.
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

Thats pretty cool, but it sounds kind of slow. I don't know if it is being performed slower or if its just an illusion due to the arrangment but it seems like it should be faster.

Yeah I kind of put it at a slower tempo for the band. I just thought it would still be noticable even at a slower tempo.
