Blog problems

For my history class, a major part of our grade is a blog. I don't know what it is about it but I just don't like it. I feel pressured to post since it's for a grade and A LOT of the post are redundant. I mean how am I supposed to bring up a discussion when everybody is saying the same thing! Last time I only posted two comments and I think I got a 20 or a 40 and the highest grade in the class was a 60! Ugh, I absolutely hate it!

What exactly do you have to do for the class? Post blog posts?

Our teacher posts a topic on the blog and everybody in class is supposed to post their opinions on the topic. I wish he would move on though. We're still on the Paleolithic Age and yet we already covered the Phoenicians in class! I bet we would get a better converstations if we would just quit talking about stupid cavemen.

I honestly fail to see what's so funny about that. A lot of Israel's history is in the Old Testament. I'll quote from my History book

"However the fundamental source is the extraordinarily rich yet problematic collection of writtings preserved in the Herbrew Bible."

"Historians disagree about the degree about the degree to which the this document accurately represents Israelite History; but, given the absense of alternative written sources, it continues to to provide a foundation, to be used critically and modified in light of archaeological discoveries"

Even though it may not be completely accurate the chronology we are learning is based on the Old Testament. In fact when we were going over it, I used what I learn in CCD to answer questions and they were right!

Personally, I'm skeptical of any historical source whose level of accuracy cannot be agreed on by historians, is meant to be used critically (as in, taking it with a grain of salt), and is predicted to be 'modified' (i.e. corrected) once archaeologists find more reliable sources.

It's hilarious that The Earth and Its People (note the lack of an apostrophe), what you're citing as proof that the Old Testament can be used to accurately teach history, actually tells the reader that the only reason the aforementioned document is being used is because nothing else is available. It even states what can in plainer terms be said as: Don't take the Old Testament as gospel (I'm so witty) in reference to Israelite history.

I agree I shouldn't use the old testament verbatim. As I said before, it's the CHRONOLOGY we use in class not the actual stories itself.

My English class made us write blog entries each week, which were printed off and turned in for a small portion of our grade, but there it sorta made sense. You were to simply write your response to the reading for the week, which would eventually become brainstorming material when it was time for the semester paper to be written.

History? Can't really think of a good reason to use a blog there, or to force you to comment on your classmates' entries.
