What is it that knows what you know, knows what you forgot, sees without observing, hears without listening, smells without sniffing, feels without touching and tastes without eating?

1) A jar contains a single bacterium which produces an identical copy of itself once per minute. Given the size of the jar, it will take one hour for the jar to be completely filled with the bacteria. How long would it take to fill the jar if there were initially two bacteria instead of one?

2) An astronaut has landed on a strange planet inhabited by creatures which the astronaut decides to call "octosquids". He explores the entire planet and makes the following observations:

-- 500 octosquids have at least one green tentacle.
-- 250 octosquids have at least one red tentacle.
-- 175 octosquids have at least one yellow tentacle.
-- 25 octosquids have one green tentacle and one red tentacle, but no yellow tentacle.
-- 17 octosquids have one red tentacle and one yellow tentacle, but no green tentacle.
-- 5 octosquids have one green tentacle and one yellow tentacle, but no red tentacle.
-- 87 octosquids have a green, red, and yellow tentacle.
-- No octosquids are tentacle-less.
-- If an octosquid has tentacles, they are green, yellow, red, or some combination thereof.

In total, how many aliens are on the planet?
