I've sometimes wondered about the bird's gender. And indeed, if it is female, than she's not straight, judging from the femmy faux roadrunners that can lure her. But remember when the coyote looked up and saw that his prey wasn't falling? The roadrunner is a dyke.
My old high school science teacher (had him 10th-12th grade, he was that good) had a running gag about carp. Every time the fish species would come up (and invaribly, it would several times a year) he had a funny way of pronouncing it.My chemistry teacher makes references to Wile E. and Roadrunner all the time.
That and the masculine-sounding beep. But seriously, Looney Tunes were female only when they had to be for the character to make sense. Even cute and petite ones like Tweety were usually male.I bet the only reason why the roadrunner was officially decreed a guy was because it'd look bad if a male predator was chasing after a female prey in a (however wacky) attempt to maul and eat her.

One reason I like the Tiny Toons better: nearly equal gender ratio.
