Characters never have life-changing epiphanies, in Ozy and Millie. They never even gradually mature over time. That's hardly unique to O&M--you see that in a lot of comic strips--but it feels out of step with my own life.

I mean, between 19 and 26, a lot changes. You come to see the world pretty differently. I am told by people older than me that, while you never stop changing, in your late 20s the process slows down, your personality and worldview becoming more solidified. But the characters in the strip haven't been sharing in that experience.

What I feel like doing now is writing a storyline in which a character comes to a realization that will actually change his or her outlook on things. I've got an idea what form this is going to take, but you'll just have to see for yourselves next week.

Never before has a concept in Ozy and Millie remained imbued in the series after and story arc has been completed. This will become a considerable milestone in O&M. Discuss.

That scares me, too. I hope it's not a storyline with Ozy discovering his parents, that idea was met with general disapproval in the other storyline thread. Then we had the storyline with Millie's cocoon, and that ended with nothing changed, either. I have no idea how this will end, and I hope DCS knows how to pull it off, because this idea in a strip like O&M can be disasterous if not done properly. Don't let us down, Simpson!

The more I think about this, the more I support it. Will it change the strip we all know and love? If done properly, yes, it will. But, if done properly, it will also open new paths for the strip, create new material, and make sure O&M never grows stale in the status quo. Change is scary, but can also me good. I'd rather see a dramatic change than have O&M grow creatively stagnate, or even worse, dead. As great as O&M is, it has it's limits and continues to reuse elements and plots tackled before. I'm sure DCS want O&M to continue as much as we do, but in order for that to happen, O&M needs room to grow. I'm still worried, but at the same time, I'm anxious to see O&M tackle something completely new. I hope this works out for the best.

No matter what happens, it will still be the Ozy and Millie we've always loved, because Dave wouldn't change it from the comic strip that he's always loved. That's what I think anyways.

I don't care how it changes, I'll still read it. It'll still make me laugh.

[...unWARP!!!]

Good evening.

If Mr. Simpson wishes to do this to his strip, I'm sure he has thought this out long and hard. There's the chance that some will not like the changes, and some that will. As for me, I'll keep an open mind about it and see where this new path leads.

Where will it lead? Locke as Ozy's father? Ozy and Millie feeling romantic? Jeremy softening up? Jeremy dying? Or another character death? Ozy finding out what happened to his biological parents? Locke in diapers? Ms. Mudd marrying? Felicia getting eaten? Ozy reaching his breaking point?

Since the comic has more or less remained comical and not quite dramatic, perhaps any of the above, as dramatic as they may sound, just might have a comic twist to them.

[bracing for Tuesday...]

Zacatepngolas!

Until next time, remember:

I

AM

THE

J.A.M.

Good evening.

[WARP!!!]
