[2]ZOMG!!! ALERT!!! NEW MEMBER!!!Hmm. I wouldn't bet my life on it, but... Is this the first O&M strip in which we see tears? Ver on-Ozy and Millie like, this one.
Still, that only adds to the impact. Personally, even though I've had my share of bullying, I was older and it didn't really leave a scar. Nevertheless, this strip really got to me.

What grips me so much about this strip is, not that Jeremy made Millie cry, or that Millie actually punched him, but that she didn't even know she did it. Ever seen someone who's overcome with so much emotion that they're not even conscious of what they're doing anymore? Honestly, that kind of thing scares me.

although I don't support violence being used as a resolution, I completeley agree with youI'm stunned.
I didn't expect that at all.
I support Millies punch becouse of the tears, that no one desearvs to be bullyed like that and the fact that I had to stop them from bullying me in a simular way.
Babies have big heads and big eyes, and tiny little bodies with tiny little arms and legs. So did the aliens at Roswell! I rest my case.

wow, everyone here has said how this seems to take the strip to a new level, it's true. This strip was quite funny, in that you get to see how everyone reacts to jeremy finally getting his just deserts, "yay millie" and yet it shows that she is just a kid. I think that we all forget that even with all the existential, "grown up" topics they talk about, these are after all 10 yr olds and seeing millie cry reminds us of that, it also reminds us that life isn't all laughs and bubblegum.
It happened to me once. I hope it never does again. What grips me so much about this strip is, not that Jeremy made Millie cry, or that Millie actually punched him, but that she didn't even know she did it. Incredibly sad
Reading this comic as almost an allegory, today's strip is really, really depressing. Poor free-spirited Millie!

I know of a good quote i've heard that can describe this strip.
"Beware the fury of a patient man"\
-John Dryden-

O somewhere are philosophers
Whose heads dwell with the birds
Whose lofty thoughts and razor minds
Do justice to such words.
But terror of exploding heads
Is quite a bit to bear
So we'll just lie here in the grass
And yo-yo in the air

Quoted for truth. This strip hits home for me also. I spent most of my young life being tormented worse than that for just being different. and i always got in trouble for retaliating.
As I surmise is the case with the other newcomers in this thread, I felt compelled to sign up in order to add my opinion. I get the joke of this strip, sort of - it's hard to tell which of the 3 is most surprised in the final panel. But the relevance to real-life bullying is so strong as to overwhelm the punchline, no pun intended.
I was pretty much the go-to guy throughout my 13 years of public school for anyone who wanted to harass someone. As the comic has already pointed out, ignoring the bully just doesn't work. They WILL stay on you until they get the desired result. The only tactic with a proven chance to earn me even a temporary reprieve was by physically striking back - which ran me the risk of being labeled as a "psycho", among other things. And naturally, the only one who ever got in trouble was me - it doesn't take an administrator as deluded as Mr. Vine to ignore whatever provoked the punch; all they care about is the punch itself.
Going by the principal's track record in these matters, Millie will be very lucky if all she gets is detention and/or a visit to Dr. Wahnsinnig. Jeremy has a 99.9999% chance of getting off scot-free, aside from whatever mark Millie made on that foot-thick skull of his. The 0.0001% relies on Mr. Vine being replaced before this gets to the principal's office.
To all those who protest that "violence is not the answer": you've obviously never been on the receiving end of anything resembling what Ozy and Millie have gone through, or you'd know that a pop on the jaw is the only thing that's likely to even slow a Jeremy down. Sometimes the only way to protect yourself is to fight back.
Millie fights back
WOW, finally, Millie fights back. Good fer her!

Ok, I resisted on commenting late last night so I could properly take in the magnitude of this strip!
Is it just me or does Ozy and Millie seem to be becoming more 'epic', for want of a better word? Perhaps it's just the amount of time and effort put into the development of these characters that when something like this does happen it's all the more meaningful.
Finally, it's great to see how many people this strip has touched what with all the new people joining to comment.
I couldn't agree more, the combined expressions and positions of both characters speak volumes. In fact the whole centre line just needs framing.I guess I'm just saying that panel three is among the most heartbreaking panels I've seen in O&M so far.
