Why? What's wrong with fudgepackers? It's a very noble profession.

If fudgepackers don't pack fudge, then who will?

In light of events since the return of the forums, I'm wondering what the members think is and is not appropriate for this site. Us moderators have become increasingly stressed out about what to do to keep this site appropriate for its audience and yet promote the freedom to speak openly about things that concern us.

As far as I am concerned, the notions of free speech are quite noble in theory, but it has its practical limits. In order to keep this place open to its intended audience, those limits have to be more strict than they would be in a site that forbids minors from reading it. It's not simply a matter of protection, but also a matter of attracting the right crowd. I would find it hard to welcome people of all ages to this discussion board if several of the topics available are offensive, because it means that many potential contributers to the discussions are simply ignoring the site and moving on.

On a different subject from the appropriateness of a topic on this board is the basic quality of the topics. I don't know about anyone else, but I have felt that the polls that have popped up lately were too sterile and general and not quite in tune with its audience. They tend to look very forced because they are. BSP, if you are looking for topics to share, you don't need a book; you can find stuff to talk about in your own life.

If anyone here feels that this site has become stale, I want to once again encourage you to post from what you know. That would be the single best thing any of you can do for this site.

What's going on in your own live journal is entirly up to your own standards. But here we have to make it a place where anyone can enjoy themselves. Anyone.

I agree with what Doc Fred said and Huffa Moose is correct in that most members keep it mild as far as language goes. As for the context of the site, i think in a way the dilemmas are choking the Anything forum. I know they're meant as debate to solve a problem but mostly i don't even read them because of their topic. But it's the Anything forum, who am i to argue about anything!

And Huffa Moose, some people might object to what the word 'pirate' is being used for.
