I don't really care how free the people within Israel are, or where they've pulled they're troops, the fact of the matter is that they still allow themselves to overreact to provocation by factions like Hamas or Hezbollah, and they still bulldoze houses and inflict large amounts of collateral damage. It's not a "hive of scum and villiany" and I never implied it was, what I'm saying, and what Kupo is saying, is that the place sure as hell isn't perfect, no matter what the surrounding area looks like, and as the most advanced and most free nation in the area, it should stop acting like it's entitled to do what it wants to it's neighbours. It's these hostile actions that make it easier for the common Palestinian to hate Israel.
While I agree that Israel greatly over-reacted to the actions of Hezbollah in Lebanon (extremely), given the lack of action of the Lebanese government and other nations that terrorist organizations operate out of against Israel, I don't think Israel can really just ignore the provocations of these groups without response; letting themselves be hit, waiting for the attackers to run out of rockets before they get anything important. Though the Israeli response to the Hezbollah attacks was far greater than it need be, they couldn't ignore the actions of Hezbollah and wait for Lebanon to do something
-the president of which gave his full support to Hezbollah. To this day, the Lebanese government refuses to disarm Hezbollah, no matter the
2006 UN Resolution Lebanon unanimously approved agreeing to disarm the Hezbollah militia in exchange for an end to the conflict and Israeli withdrawal.
The "more wretched hive of scum and villiany" part was just a Star Wars quote used for the fun of it.
