Four Illustrations

Postby CameronCN » Mon May 28, 2007 5:39 pm

These are some illustrations I drew for my Dad's novel Two Birds. I dropped the project, like I so often do, but I did do four scenes:

I plan on using these pages in my comic later, but for now they being used anywhere. What do you think?

Cameron is awesome because:
-Because he has an artistic style that is both complex and minimalist. This is profound!
-He once drew me as a roadrunner. It was an actual honest to god feral roadrunner, but a roadrunner nonetheless!
-He lives in Idaho among the wilderness and stuff and I envy him for that. 3:
-He is probably one of the most personable artists on here.
-I think he's the only one of us on here who drew a fanart that made it as a guest strip on O&M. This is an accomplishment!

Nice Work, CAM! 8)

Can you give a synopsis of the novel?

Do you do all of your work in black and white? Or do you not like to work with color, some artistic preference, maybe?

Hmm, let's see...
Two Birds, the title character is a prairie dog. His people live in a city dug into the side of the canyon; they have a Native-American style culture. He is the "watcher"-since, unlike most prairie dogs, those of the Ancient Village are so secure and self-sufficient they only assign one person responsibility to keep an eye on what's happening in the higher world. Anyway, he sees a 'sign' on his very first day: a flock of birds taking off suddenly in a perfectly straight line for no reason. In the succeeding days, things start to happen-wandering groups of wolves and coyotes gather, a secret conspiracy begins to make it self known, strangers come from far away, and Two Birds and his friends and family must do what they can to ensure the Ancient Village will be prepared for the even greater events that Old One warns them about... If they can get anyone to listen...

And that's all I'll give away. :)

No, I do color too... It's just I'm fairly inexperienced with comic art, and my coloring technique isn't so good. Also, it's a lot of work, it doesn't go well with my art style, and I just plain like black and white. I like the inky look.

But I do lots of other things in color. In fact, gimme a minute and I'll start another thread about these pieces of completely different art I did...

It's not like he was paying me or anything...

Hey, don't give me that look. I already proofread, typeset and published the novel on lulu for him. 'Course, he paid me to design the cover.

Hey, I just realized: since it's on lulu too, you can buy our book when you buy Ozy and Millie books...

Man Cameron, those are just plain awesome! You really have some skill. It's such a shame you dropped the project.

Just because I dropped that project doesn't mean I don't have other neat things up my sleeve...
I just dropped it because I realized that if I put out a new edition of Two Birds with my illustrations added (and a new(er) cover) the new version wouldn't be on Amazon without buying another ISBN for another $100.

Well, as I said before, I intend to use the pages above in my comic sooner or later. In the case of the two wolf pages, this is sooner. I liked the wolf so much I decided to give him a story going on beside the main story. This is what I've done so far:

I hope I drew the hunting accurately. :)

"Large Pack" is a cute name for a pack.
