My first attempt at drawing...well sorta

Postby PAK » Tue Jan 09, 2007 10:34 pm

This is my first attempt of drawing anything remotely 'human', usually i doodle abstract drawings of cubes, pyramids and spheres :P also all my drawing is on a PC tablet, so thats why it might not come out as good as stuff done on paper. my aim is eventually to be good at drawing...:)

Image

the bigger image is a tracing i did from the ozy pic on the cast page. the smaller in the top left corner is my attempt, totally freehand, to draw ozy. unfortunately i didnt leave enough room for the hat :S that'll be for next time...

plz comment & criticise :) and i promise, its my first time drawing any animals/humans 8)

I'd say the thing you should try changing is the many short lines you use to draw. I know it helps form an image easier but it doesn't look so good visually. Or maybe that's just me.

1. Nice Drawings! There's potential in there.

2. It doesn't look like you used any sort of frame or structure (I can't really think of any better words right now) to draw your Ozy. Making some sort of initial skeleton would probably help make your characters look more real.

Mmm, it depends on style really. I think I'm at least Ok at drawing, and I rarely draw a line longer than a centimetre. I just flick my pencil over and over, and correct later.

Skeletons aren't really necessary. I, for one, don't use such construction techniques.

It just takes practice to do it without the skeleton.

I'm not talking about correcting later. Unless this type of drawing is meant to be the final product I suggested cleaning it up.

The scratchiness actually has some sort of appeal to it. You'd just have to make it look neater, though.

first: Snazzy stuff!

second: when I first started to use a tablet I could not get used to the lack of friction that a pencil and piece of paper could provide. So I taped a small square of paper onto the top surface of the tablet to add a little more friction. This helped me in drawing somewhat straighter lines. Hope it helps ya.

Good luck with your artwork too!
