Update:

The officer who fired the taser had a history of excessive violence. His use of the taser is being investigated, but he was allowed back on duty on Monday.

I honestly can't believe he's still trying to defend his actions.

Got a policeman in France who took turns with colleagues to sit on a guy's back in the 'plane while he was being expelled from the country. The young man died of suffocation (I think), the policeman got 6 month's prison (but won't have a criminal record so's he can get his job back when he comes out) - the other two were acquitted. And apparently that was established police practice at the time, though now forbidden. Why defend your actions when the State will do it for you?

They've just ordered 3000 tasers here, and the student incident is just one example of the likely misuses that people aren't too happy about.

Just wait until they taser their first weak heart or pregnant woman...
