Choice of ads

Postby Tom Flapwell » Thu Nov 16, 2006 8:58 pm

Does anyone else find it vaguely disturbing that sometimes, when you open an O&M page, the top banner will offer to let you meet sexy women, showing examples in undies/bikinis? I realize that we're (probably) all old enough to view such things, but there's just something about the context. I picture Ozy glancing up, disregarding it for a moment, and then saying, "Wait, what?" And just as well that Stephan is almost never around.

I mean...there's also a link to keenspot's other comics, which are also inappropriate, but surely DCS could work out a deal where the inappropriate ads are not shown?

DCS should've ended the comic a year or two ago.

Or we could pretend that we watch tv where you can see much worse in the afternoon, and sexuality is not a big deal.

Granted, Ozy and Milie is a PG-rated strip. This means kids could potentially read the site's content and it wouldn't raise any real red flags for the parents. The banners on the site need to have the same ratings standards, no questoins asked. There are plenty of other places on the Internet to advertise scantily-clad women and questionable content.

Still, it's arguably not as bad as what the Talk About Comics forums used to show. For a few weeks, all of a sudden, the ads were filled with cartoon nudity, some of it butt-ugly. Some of the comics discussed there were no more risque than O&M.

Most sites that offer hosting of this sort anymore will also filter ads to the rating of the content. If Keenspot hasn't gotten this yet, they need to be hung over the edge of a tall building by a meat hook through the genitals until they do so.
I got sick of not having a signature. Now if only I had anything to put in it...

I sortof agree with you guys that the ads disrupt the whole O&M setting. I'm used to see the simple white background layout. And they're distracting, being that they're in full color in contrast to the rest of the site. But it's not like they're offensive. Just thank god they aren't those annoying flash ads for "free smilies"

Honestly if my parents monitored my internet use and saw those ads at the top of a page I regularly visit, they would probably have the site blocked on my computer.

It just sort of puts one off.

I've been conditioned by internet evolution to just ignore the ads so I've never seen what they link to.

Your parents are crazy and over protective. You better watch out if they ever catch you watching Happy Days (They discuss premarital sex on their, and its even implied that the Fonz takes part of it!)

I agree that the white, adlessness of yesteryear was more visually appealing, the ads help raise money for DCS and he does enjoy eating occasionally.

What ads? *unadblocks* Ah. *adblocks*

Yeah, I see. Those ads don't really fit O&M :P

(doesn't this belong in the forum for O&M, not the forum for DC site news?)

Gotta love that Firefox!

*laughs at the total lack of ads*
