Based on a true story...

Postby Tabris_The_17th » Wed Oct 04, 2006 3:17 am

For those of you wanting to see another actual strip of my comic, I present to you this little diddy:

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/40833471/

Other than trying to figure out a better way to handle the inking, I'm getting very close to where I want to be to starting my comic. The character designing continues of course, but I felt the need to try making another "practice strip" of sorts. I'm happy with how Sara came out in panels 2 and 3, not as much in 1. I still think she's looking solid though. I just need work on background characters as well as text. I believe I should consider adding text digitally rather than trying to improve my ugly handwriting.

The actual title of this strip is "Based on a true story about a guy I know who looks just like me." Yes, this same exact thing happened to me last week. I think inspiration that comes from your own life can result in the best strips sometimes. Drawing this certainly was theraputic though. At the time, it was FAR from funny. But I look at this strip and giggle.

Aghghghghg, that must have sucked. Sorry :( But for what it's worth, it makes for a funny strip! :D
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

I think your handwriting looks just fine. If you want to add text digitally, you could try making your own font from your own handwriting (there's a way to do it, I'm just not sure how :-P ) and use that.

Hmmmmmm, interesting. Perhaps my graphics design savy friend might know of this. Although on the other hand I might be doing the world a favor by avoiding my handwriting style by any means, lol.

Dude, have you seen my handwriting?! You're is fine, for sure.

Also, something like that happened to me recently, though it was more about wasting ?3 on bus fare.

Unless it's the style you want for the comic you don't HAVE to do handwriting. I'm sure you've noticed almost all comics are done with capital letters.

Also despite how bad a person might be at lettering (any type of) I'm a firm believer that it's always better than almost any font to write it yourself.

My hand writing would put that belief to the test as well.

I'd like "Sabrina Online" better if only Eric Schwartz could draw word balloons and text as expertly as he draws other things. (I stopped reading S.O. years ago.) Among syndicated comics, the Crappy Handwriting Award probably goes to "Preteena," tho "The Wizard of Id" would be on the ballot. Actually, TWoI belongs on the ballot for every lameness award.
