This has to be a jokestrip or something, heh. There's so many out of character things here, it looks to me as if this strip was written as a last-minute filler or something. And I think you're right, random decapitation might have worked in the last panel [As a joke effect, of course.]

Edit: My suspicions were right, looks like Likeafox pulled a fast one on us, hehe. It would have looked a little more real had the font not given it away.

Not that any actual Garfield comics contain that punchline, though many may be improved if they did.
