Don't know where you got that from, but it's nonsense. The imperative mood as it's called is always just the single word in English. Just look at 'be' in that sense:
'Be there!'
It's obviously not 'you be' so how does that work, going with your theory?

Its less a theory and more a hastily remembered grammar lesson. All I know is that a sentence needs a subject and a verb to be a sentence.

That's the general idea, but it's not a requirement. According to Wikipedia a verb is all it needs:
'In linguistics, a sentence is a unit of language, characterized in most languages by the presence of a finite verb.'
