I would recommend just running the blur tool over the edges.

Thats what I did on the first one but Photoshop decided Millie had began assending to a higher plane of something

I can make stuff ascend to higher planes in Paint Shop Pro: just select it and hit "Promote to Layer."

It's even better in the GIMP: select "Float" from the menu. Because floats are on plains higher than those that can be reached by layers alone.
