There is a way to do it with MPlayer but it involves making the movie spew itself out as a ton of jpegs and then piecing it back together with the GIMP or Photoshop.

You mean MEncoder. I'll have to look into it, didn't know it had a codec for that.

[Edit: Oh, it was MPlayer.

Click here but be warned... 12.7mb... dialup users need not apply. The only animated GIF creator I have doesn't do any optmization, unfortunately. I tried the GIMP but it gave me an even bigger file.]
