I think the BUT was the pivotal word in that sentence. Ah well, as long as Israel keeps letting itself get provoked, there'll be clashes.
Yup; giving up the Sinai Peninsula and pulling out from the Gaza Strip, fighting terrorists who repeatedly target civilian locations and encourage children to martyrdom, allowing universal suffrage, holding the highest literacy rate in the region, and being the only nation considered "Free" in the region, you'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villiany than Israel.

Wait a minute...

I don't really care how free the people within Israel are, or where they've pulled they're troops, the fact of the matter is that they still allow themselves to overreact to provocation by factions like Hamas or Hezbollah, and they still bulldoze houses and inflict large amounts of collateral damage. It's not a "hive of scum and villiany" and I never implied it was, what I'm saying, and what Kupo is saying, is that the place sure as hell isn't perfect, no matter what the surrounding area looks like, and as the most advanced and most free nation in the area, it should stop acting like it's entitled to do what it wants to it's neighbours. It's these hostile actions that make it easier for the common Palestinian to hate Israel.

While I agree that Israel greatly over-reacted to the actions of Hezbollah in Lebanon (extremely), given the lack of action of the Lebanese government and other nations that terrorist organizations operate out of against Israel, I don't think Israel can really just ignore the provocations of these groups without response; letting themselves be hit, waiting for the attackers to run out of rockets before they get anything important. Though the Israeli response to the Hezbollah attacks was far greater than it need be, they couldn't ignore the actions of Hezbollah and wait for Lebanon to do something -the president of which gave his full support to Hezbollah. To this day, the Lebanese government refuses to disarm Hezbollah, no matter the 2006 UN Resolution Lebanon unanimously approved agreeing to disarm the Hezbollah militia in exchange for an end to the conflict and Israeli withdrawal.

The "more wretched hive of scum and villiany" part was just a Star Wars quote used for the fun of it.

Yeah, I don't think Israel shouldn't react, but like you said, it OVERreacts, which is my problem, because it only provides more fuel to Hezbollah.

And I knew the "wretched hive of scum and villainy" was a quote from something, but I couldn't recall what.

There is also the small matter that ever since the UN partition plan Israel has governed over or taken more and more land within its current boundaries that were predominantly or competely Palestinian before. No doubt the gradual chipping away at their borders looks like an invasion to some.

I find it deeply ironic that the Israelis complain about the terrorism of the people who they stole the land from using terrorism in the first place.

Oh but Roo, you're forgetting about that all-important difference between 'bad terrorists' and 'good terrorists'!

The more news posts like this i read the more i am glad I'm an atheist. Kinda makes you wonder what the world would be like if everyone on earth gave up religion. Of course people would probably then find another reason to kill each other.

And the fact that before Israel was created, Britain and the UN did establish a seperate land for Palestinians in addition to Israel. Unfortunately, when Israel was created, all that land was immediatedly invaded by the Arab nations attacking Israel in the Israeli War for Independance, half of which the Arabian nations lost to Israel because of the war. Though the other half was still available for a separate state, no one ever did, and all the nations involved agreed to Armistice Agreements which gave Israel the borders it would have uncontested by the Arabian nations until the Six Day War.

Land stolen using terrorism? Land given to Israel by Britain and the UN through peaceful means with consessions given to the Palestinian people, which were lost due to other nations jumping the gun.

To say nothing of Abraham and Isaac.

Yes, a seperate land for the Palestinians...who were all quite happy living where they had done previously for thousands of years.

So why label the Israelis as having used terrorism to steal land when Britain was the one which gave it with little regard to the Palestinian population already located therein?

Because the Israelis are still doing it.

EDIT: Before you misinterpret that, what I mean to say is that Israel is still quite hostile, and is contributing to a lot of the problems in the Mid-East, whereas Britain is not (at least not to nearly the same degree). Britain does have a lot of blood on it's hands, but Israel is a bigger issue here and now.
