This picture (in the original) is much bigger than my drawings usually are-it's 12" by 18" at 500 dpi. This is because I'm going to use it to make a full-size poster. The poster is only printed at 200 dpi, of course, so it can be made bigger for that. 12x18 isn't really all that big, but (even though it's only in black and white) my computer was straining with it. That's why I don't do color much: with my style, I prefer to color using virtual paint, which my Pentium 4 and standard video RAM just can't handle without being PAINFULLY slow.

I did a little hunting around to find the bow I liked most for Rish there. One of the neat things about fantasy is that I can have a Jewish Native American otter living in a Roman city in the middle of the American Desert using a traditional Mongolian bow.

Cameron is awesome because:
-Because he has an artistic style that is both complex and minimalist. This is profound!
-He once drew me as a roadrunner. It was an actual honest to god feral roadrunner, but a roadrunner nonetheless!
-He lives in Idaho among the wilderness and stuff and I envy him for that. 3:
-He is probably one of the most personable artists on here.
-I think he's the only one of us on here who drew a fanart that made it as a guest strip on O&M. This is an accomplishment!

Interesting...Good Work! 8)

Are they supposed to be bald like monks? Or does their fur doesn't show up?

That's kind of a hard one. Otters have short fur which is usually wet, making them look like they don't have any; on the other hand these otters, being in the desert, are rarely wet. Basically, Rish there has a good pelt of fur, but it doesn't really show except as a general fuzziness in close-ups. I considered drawing them (especially the women) with hair, but it looked weird. In the end, it's easier to draw this way, and I have problem with the way it looks, except that sometimes it makes Rish look too much like Fone Bone. :)

Why am I not reading Lontranus? The art is so incredibly beautiful.

I don't know, there's something about your style that just hits me in the right way.

And I like that it's in black and white.

Nice!

On second thought.... :?

Very nice !!!!! :P
gforce422 is awesome because:
-He made the absolute nicest comments about me in the other topic. I didn't respond to them yet, because I suck, but they are greatly appreciated! =D
-I would say he would also be a good runner up as one of the nicest people alive.
-He joined the IRC sometimes. But not enough, I say! Chat moar =D
-He is evidently only 18 year old but he could easily pass for 25. =D
-He is a drummer like *I* am and this in itself is cool.

This is a quick sketch of what it looks like just before shooting with one of these bows. Note that this is obviously not Rish-he's more, um, sturdily built. :) I used a photo ref, of course.

An interesting thing--this is the very first time I've ever drawn feet on one of my otters. Managed to avoid it for 22 full pages. :D I've been thinking about it for a while, and I don't think they look too bad, now that I've actually drawn them. What do you think?

Meanwhile, I've lost track of how many "Downscale" strips I've done without ever showing a human or rat walking (not an issue for the snake).

There's nothing wrong with your otter feet. Except that I can't tickle them.

They are very good otter feet. They're exactly how I would have expected them to look.

Also I feel like I need to use that last image for something. But I don't know what. It's awesome.

EDIT:

Image

I decided I really did want to use it as my wallpaper, so I (badly) coloured it. I didn't really pay attention to getting the colours right. I just chose what looks good to me.

Hmm, Javs, the green you picked there gives me the sudden urge to... there, done.

I guess I need to draw a more detailed version of this, since you guys liked it so much.

Oh, and I'm going to draw one of Rish with a sword a bit later today.
