Uberprogs 1: Dropbox

Postby likeafox » Wed Oct 07, 2009 6:08 pm

I've been using Dropbox for a while now, and I think it's a great service. A FREE service. When you install it, it's basically a folder on your computer with a bunch of cool superpowers. Any time you move a file into it or save a file, it's instantly backed up so you don't have to worry about losing it in a hard drive crash or accidentally deleting it (or even overwriting it, because every different version of it is backed up and you can revert to an older version whenever you want).
The best thing is the ability to share files though. Any computer that you connect to your Dropbox account will instantly have access to that same folder. You can also create folders to share with any other Dropbox user. Liz and I don't use AIM to send stuff anymore. Anything we want to send to eachother we just put in our shared folder.
Dropbox also replaces Photobucket and numerous other hosting sites. With Dropbox you get a "public" folder and anything you put in it is automatically available on the internet. You can just right click on the file and click copy link under the dropbox menu and then paste the url wherever you want.
If you want to try it out, please follow my link. For everyone that signs up, I get an extra 250MB for free:
get drop box

These spambots have been getting pretty damn clever recently.

I'm sold. I used to love the way AIM 5.9 handled file sharing, but 6.x is so shit.
I like watching porn of Doog...

It's probably safe and all, but I don't like having an online program keep a copy of what I have.
