What song?IF YOU EVER POST THAT AGAIN I WILL END YOU!
And the green grass grows all around, all around
and the green grass grows all around...
I just got that damn song out of my head

I haven't read that far back in a while, so here's a question to either prove me wrong or get you thinking: was that the first time THEY met him or the first time WE met him? When they first met him, he was more concerned with ADVERTISEMENT, not being cool.
Sometimes people can change what they're really like through the process of gaining popularity. I've seen it. However, I don't think that'll ever be the case with Avery, especially considering the current storyline.Except Ozy and Millie don't seem to mind, neither being all that concerned with coolness. Plus they know about Avery, so they probably know he's going to run off and they still hang out with him because they know what's he's really like.It really doesn't feel good to be the friend that gets forgotten when someone becomes more popular. I know, I've been there.
Still, dismissing it because they know what he's really like just doesn't seem like a good enough reason for Ozy and Millie to not mind when Avery treats them as lesser beings. It's not about them being concerned with coolness or not, but that someone they call a friend is treating them in a negative manner. It's like they're waiting for him to learn a lesson, and they're just taking this treatment until that day comes. That just doesn't seem fair to me.

Ah, I was right. They did know him already when he made his first appearance. It would be interesting to see what he was like when he first befriended Ozy and Millie.

Well at least Ozy has been conditioned to the weird a little in that way by Millie (and partly I suppose by Avery himself) and though Millie might be the more vocal of the two about the situation I don't remember if she actively acted to change Avery in a practical way (threats and physical damage don't count).Still, dismissing it because they know what he's really like just doesn't seem like a good enough reason for Ozy and Millie to not mind when Avery treats them as lesser beings. That's a good point as well. Well when you come right down to it, no matter how you look at the situation, without it we wouldn't have as good of a story. That's why comics are better than the real worldWell at least Ozy has been conditioned to the weird a little in that way by Millie (and partly I suppose by Avery himself) and though Millie might be the more vocal of the two about the situation I don't remember if she actively acted to change Avery in a practical way (threats and physical damage don't count).

That's right, I hadn't thought of that. Although, I guess there's always the possibility that Ozy knew Avery longer than Millie though.wouldn't they have not actually known him until that school year? Ozy and Millie didn't know each other until school.

I'm fairly sure the strips in the archives from January 1998 have little chronological unity. Simpson has said that at the time she was designing the strip for syndication and not online and thus certain discrepancies might be there.
That's why in those strips Ozy and Millie seem to know each other well, but in the early June 1998 strips there's a storyline that makes it look like they just met. Although Millie's weirdness makes it vague enough that it's possible they met before (despite Ozy saying he's the new kid).
