<!--QuoteBegin-Doctor Fred+Apr 26 2004, 04:46 PM--> <table border='0' align='center' width='95%' ><tr><td class='quotetop'><b>Quote:</b> (Doctor Fred @ Apr 26 2004, 04:46 PM)</td></tr><tr><td class='quotebody'> Realistic cartoons are meant to have the standard number of fingers like any human. Anthropomorphic animals have had three fingers since the beginning of time (Mickey Mouse; Bugs Bunny) and are symbolic for cartoony animated cartoons, which are destined to have three. Any anthro cartoon is innevitably associated with the cartoon animal symbol, and would look highly out of place (at least to me) with four. (imagine Bugs Bunny with four fingers <!--emo&:o--><img src='http://definecynical.mancubus.net/forum ... s/ohmy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='ohmy.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table> <!--QuoteEEnd--><br> Well, strictly speaking, the original reason for the "three and a thumb" style was that the animator could save some time by not drawing the extra appendage. Over a couple thousand frames it adds up. <i>Now</i> that's just the way it's done, but not initially.<br><br>Yeah.

That also goes along the lines with the length of Bugs Bunny's wisker hairs. Origionally, they were longer than how they appear today.

It may have started for simple reasons, but it has become synonymous with cartoons.

It depends on the character really, if i made a four fingered fox then changed it suddenly to three fingers after years it wouldn't seem right.

But then, maybe he's not.
