Sweet.
I wonder if it'll finally get it's own forum too. I've always wanted a place online where I can talk about O&M.
Math is NEVER overrated. Math is the key to upholding the modern world.
It takes language to build a society, but math and science to build a world.

I was looking through the default avatars for this forum and found one of Gutierrez from Freakazoid, I always liked that show, so I used it as my avatar, my title is a line he said while falling down a cliff.
By the power of greyskull, I'm not sure I believe that.

Ok, you asked for it. Well, maybe not you, but somebody did. I think.

My avatar explained:

Decided to sit down one day and teach myself Photoshop paths (basically vectors). This was the result.

The attached image shows progressive stages of that process. The following list describes the sections of the attached image. These three sentences may be obvious.

1. I stumbled across this cute image while wandering the internet one day. I wish it was larger; that's about actual size in the attachment. Though it doesn't look it, it's actually a red fox of the platinum variety. I'm partial to recessive traits. Anyway, I thought it made a "right corking" candidate for this exercise.
2. Applied Photoshop's "Trace Contour" filter to greatly simplify the shapes.
3. Overlaid the contour over the original for color reference.
4. Vectorize! As I didn't previously know how to use paths in Photoshop, this was probably where I spent most of my time (almost two days). Now i know better than to use Photoshop for vectors.
5. Remove the original from the background for a better idea of the finished product. I did leave the contour in for positional reference.
6. Decided the picture was too cluttered. I never could get those "crown" vectors to look decent. The "eyebrows" were only cut after the decision to go all minimalistic. Also took artistic liberties with the eye and nose positions. Tried fooling with the eye color, but everything I chose detracted from the ambiguous stare of the original.
7. This was far too symmetrical, so...
8. I rotated it 10 degrees.

Additionally, I didn't work with images this small. While vectorizing, I scaled the image to about five times the size you see here. It was only when I decided to use it as my avatar that I scaled it down to 125 pixels. Larger pictures are much easier to work with. :P

And there you have it. I hope you enjoyed the show. Recordings of tonight's performance will be available for purchase on the internet shortly.
