My first attempt at drawing...well sorta

I like this Sarah. The only trouble is that she looks the same age as her son. I'm not sure how best to convey middle age.

yea i thought of that too...i had enough trouble conveying that she's female...(hence the eyelashes)...

i mean, in ozy&millie its easy to convey adults, cause they are taller than the kids. but for teenagers, that difference kinda fades away. i mean, im 16, and im taller than my mom...

Well, I think it would help make Sarah look more feminine if you made her waist a bit thinner and her shoulders and hips a little wider, also, to make her look older, make her head a bit smaller as compared to her body, just change the proportions so that her head doesn't look as big, because big heads imply youth.

A couple of other things that might help, if you want an adult male, give him whiskers or at least little points to indicate whiskers, as that could replace facial hair as an indicater of gender and age. And you might want to try making your male characters shoulders a bit broader, to make it easier to distinguish between males and females, as you currently draw their bodies the same.
