I'm always concerned when these two are interacting out in a featureless void. I mean I guess if Llewelyn's couch can lead to a bizarro-world, there's no reason his broom closet doesn't take them into the ether, but... still kind of weird.

Presumably DCS didn't have the time or inclination, or simply forgot, to put in a background. And for the sake of the joke it wouldn't matter where they were playing.

Actually, Millie could have used "poker tail" instead-but she's a little girl with a mischievous streak, and probably wanted the excuse to say "butt" when she could get away with it.

Poker butt would be a good name for a song

From time to time I give in to the urge to draw humor from the fact that Ozy has no pants on.
Its his second favorite joke.

I didn't realize this was a no-pants joke, I thought it was a "haha foxes have tails" joke.
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

That's what I thought too. Millie and her mother both wear pants and their tails are out in the open.

Ah, crap. Wrong commentary.
This is rare, for Ozy. Usually, Millie's the tail-wagger. Ozy's posterior is usually more stoic.
It was, in fact, a HAHAH they have tails joke.

Despite being a 'ha ha they have TAILS!' joke, I have to say that the phrase 'his posterior is usually more stoic' is pretty wonderful.

No backgrounds doesn't mean they're in a void, it's common in all sorts of comics. Especially those who are on the internet and can get away with it because they're held up to less scrutinous criticism normally.

I'm actually just asking for a horizon line. That's why it looks like they're in a void; no horizon line. Is that so much to ask?

The blankness is symbolic of Ozy's soul. Barren yet organised, carefree and tranquil. The moment an ounce of outside excitement creeps in, like here with a favourable card draw, a little darkness invades to distrub the silence.
