I think these pages are sorta okay, but offer nothing new compared to the similar ones published earlier.
Some aspects of the artwork have improved, too, but this impression is diminished by the occasional wonky anatomy. Seriously, D.C. Simpson should be able to come up with something better than the rubber arms in the last panel.
That said “Raine Dog” is the single worst case of Mary Sue-ism I’ve ever seen. I’ve read autobiographical comics where the main character is less of a Mary Sue as Raine Dog is.

Narnia does not a definition make. But! Cannibalism has also been traditionally extended to the consumption of sentient life, a distinction that's generally unknown because it's usually unneeded. Peruse the Narnia series. Ha HA!Nitpick/ Technically, cannibalism is when a creature eats its own species. Humans eating cows wouldn't qualify /nitpick

On a second thought this chapter does not make much sense. Since, you know, dogs are meat eaters. And while humans can become vegetarians that would be a bad idea for any dog if he doesn’t want to study nutrition tables all day long to ensure that he gets all necessary proteins.
Raine never actually says eating meat is bad (she even chews on a bone in the end) she just gives the cows a chance to leave that they don't take. Its a metaphore about being a dude and wanting boobs or something.

Re: July 14, 2009
This may not matter much, but DCS was at Anthrocon after all. Assuming that entire week was taken up by preparation for the con, travel, and the con itself (as it was for me), then that leaves us with 3 weeks for 3 pages, or one comic per week. Which is exactly what we had when the comic started, just packaged into a single noteworthy update of multiple pages like we wanted it to be.3 weeks. Three pantsless weeks, and we get 4 pages! What kind of effortless shit is this?
As much fun as it is to bash DCS, I can't really complain too much about the update schedule, simply because I know I certainly couldn't come up with enough creative output in a month to equal the amount people might expect daily. Not saying anything about the quality of DCS's creativity, but it's on a better schedule than what I could do myself, so I keep my mouth shut.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you.
Of course, if she told us she was going to the con, I might be more sympathetic. But instead she updates whenever, is unapologetic(does not even give the BS excuse of Artist Flakiness she used to), and gives us this naval gaze of a comic, with paper thin characters and no plot. There is no effort to pull us into the world, and no reason to relate to the characters. I'm not going to give a break just because.
I love how at the bottom it says "question everything", even though this comic will never question the socio-political opinions of its author.

I don't understand how Raine knows that the cows will be eaten but no one else who's ever walked past the cows has said anything. I mean really you'd think the cows would have picked up on it if they can talk and such.
And why is everyone so mean to Raine? I don't get it...I'd be like, "What? You're trying to save my life? Thank you so much, I should take this opportunity to escape!" I mean come on, you'd think at least a couple cows would do so.
I just don't get the whole "Raine is a stray so everyone hates her." deal... is it a metaphor or something?

DCS was gay then transgendered then "OOPS NEVERMIND NO I'M NOT" then transgendered again and is currently at some stage in the process of being transexual, and many people do not like her, mostly for reasons that somehow tie into that subject.
I theorize that Raine is going to willingly go back into "slavery" but then overcome her cowardice and finally become the revolutionary dog she once believed Laika to be.

This character is supposed to represent DCS in many ways, shapes, and forms. The problem is he has the "scorned prophet" and "martyrdom" ideals around himself, believing he's figured out far greater goods than any man or woman who is (in his eyes) less enlightened ever could, and those same individuals whom he selflessly tries to help would stand by that which they know in place of being saved by someone such as himself, who he see's as more knowledgeable, more cunning, and superior to in nearly every regard. This is how DCS views Raine Dog, and this is how he views his 'righteous endeavors' through his art, blogs, and views.I don't understand how Raine knows that the cows will be eaten but no one else who's ever walked past the cows has said anything. If you've done things right, people won't be sure if you've done anything at all.

So THIS is why people were saying that Raine Doge was a "Mary Sue". Thank you for explaining. This character is supposed to represent DCS in many ways, shapes, and forms.
