I never read that story arc. How could that even work? Do they have a pet duck that I don't know about?
It's referring to Ernest, Millie's rubber duck. And she was likely trying to create a semisensical diversion to distract her mother from something Millie just broke/lit aflame/etc. At least it's better than "I had to wash my styrofoam."
