IRC help

I have questions. You probably have answers. I can't seem to connect to IRC now that I'm in Scotsmanland. I just keep getting "unable to connect", "connection refused", and "java.lang.NullPointerException"

In my horribly self-centered, egotistical way I assume that you all suffer every minute that my presence isn't felt on there so if you can help me, help me.

You might want to leave an offering to the IRC gods.

that, or look on the MIRC website.

Are you within a firewalled network (e.g. at a university)? It's possible that your outbound port 6667 is being blocked.

That might be it. The scottishland university network is much more restrictive than the one at my uni. Its been blocking warcraft battlenet and stuff like that.

Know any way around it? That wouldn't involve me getting deported?

Your solutions are crazy and full of madness. Much like a small peloponessian city-state.

you might need to randomize your router ports.

That won't work, however tunnelling past the proxy will ^_^

Assume that the first thing I thought of when you said that involved a shovel and a pickaxe.

I would attempt to find a Proxy server somewhere (just Google "proxy server") and try to connect through it. Most proxy servers let you connect to them using HTTP port 80, which is the same connection your Web browser uses, so the connection would not be refused unless your school had specifically found and blocked that server. (If they have, just keep looking till you find one they haven't.) Get their info, then go into your IRC client's settings for "Proxy" (or "Advanced" on some) and enter it in the appropriate boxes.

Well I didn't want to make a whole new thread, so I will just ask: Is the IRC down or is it just me?
