I have questions. You probably have answers. I can't seem to connect to IRC now that I'm in Scotsmanland. I just keep getting "unable to connect", "connection refused", and "java.lang.NullPointerException"
In my horribly self-centered, egotistical way I assume that you all suffer every minute that my presence isn't felt on there so if you can help me, help me.

Are you within a firewalled network (e.g. at a university)? It's possible that your outbound port 6667 is being blocked.
If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. (Revelation 2:5, NIV)

I would attempt to find a Proxy server somewhere (just Google "proxy server") and try to connect through it. Most proxy servers let you connect to them using HTTP port 80, which is the same connection your Web browser uses, so the connection would not be refused unless your school had specifically found and blocked that server. (If they have, just keep looking till you find one they haven't.) Get their info, then go into your IRC client's settings for "Proxy" (or "Advanced" on some) and enter it in the appropriate boxes.
