Suggestion: Java chat page

Postby Steve the Pocket » Sun Mar 18, 2007 12:05 am

I found a really cool Java-based Web chat client called PJIRC that might be a worthwhile addition to our site. We used to have a simple Java client on the site for people who didn't want to, or for some reason couldn't, bother with external clients.

It requires the creation of a login page and, I assume, editing of the HTML files into a PHP one that accepts POST values to plug into the Java parameters.

this is in fact what acidchat uses as its java client. I think it is pretty nice as well.

DCS should've ended the comic a year or two ago.

The client at acidchat.net isn't running, but jent has a Java client at http://chat.bigbudden.com.

Yeah the only downside to that is that you get dumped into #bigbudden by default, with no way to override. I was able to set up my own copy of the client though, which is now in use for E-Studios: http://chat.cncreneclips.com/

You could set up a similar system for DC. In fact, you're welcome to use any of my code, just ask for it. ;)

It has been on my list to fix the AC website too. Just been too busy/lazy. But _eventually_ there will be a java client on acidchat.net where you can enter in the room you want to connect to.
cheers.....

I know there is no java chat for DC yet. But the acidchat website is back online. If you wish you can go to the acidchat website here:
http://www.acidchat.net

And now there is a generic java applet to connect to the acidchat servers on the site. You can access this ether from the acidchat website. Or if you want to have just the chat applet in a window without all the fancy website stuff you can go here:
http://chat.acidchat.net

Hope this makes it easier on you guys. You can have access to the channel list with this applet vs the BBD applet which you can't. Also it does not force you to join the #bigbudden any more but instead makes you join #acidchat. If you wish you can still use the bigbudden applet, but this is another option for you.

Let me know if you have any problems with the new site....I think this will make things easier on everyone :wag:
cheers.....
