A Request for Reinstatement

Hello Define Cynical. I am award winning musical artist Mark Lanegan. I spoke today with my good friend Josh Homme. He is distressed that he has been banned from your foroumn. Now I understand that his conduct can be crass; even rude. However he is a fan of the comic Ozy and Millie, and very upset that he can no longer come here. Now I know what you all are thinking. Why would a rock superstar like him care if some people won't let him on their messageboard. Well the truth is he wants to talk about this comic, and has no other outlet. I've read it per his request, and found it very charming, but frankly I can only talk about it for so long before tiring of the subject. If you told Josh what he specificly did wrong he has promised to correct his behavier and act in a mannar that is fitting. I think you should consider letting him back. Once you get past the gruff exterior you will find that he is a great man, and can contribute to your community. Thank you
sincerely
Mark Lanegan

Are you talking about Ruedii-X?

No, he's referring to Dead Rabbits, a.k.a. watchoutrobotattack, who mainly posted stuff that annoyed people.
If he is really Josh Homme, then why is his IP address for an ISP in Michigan, when Homme lives in California? And if you really are Mark Lanegan, why is your IP address for an ISP in Turkey? And no, it's not because of a tour.

No I am talking about modern rock star Josh Homme. I believe he said he posted on here under the name Auto Pilot No Control, or something similear.

I honestly cannot tell you. I'm not very good with computers. My lady is the one who usually handles these things. I'd ask her but she isn't home at the moment. What exactly is an IP address. If I have one for an incorrect area I should probably get that corrected.

I think the username is "autopilotnocontrol".
As for the IP thing, I trust the traking sites about as for as I can throw them, and it is very very hard to throw a rack of servers!

Ah yes, you're right. I'd forgotten that alias. So, autopilotnocontrol, Dead Rabbits, and watchoutrobotattack are all the same person. Interesting.

First of all, because it is not about Ozy and Millie, this topic does not belong in this section. I will leave it here temporarily just to inform you it will be moved to
The Site when I sign in later this weekend. Bubblegum, next time before you post, I expect you to read the guidelines on
The Landing Strip. It will give you a better idea of what topics belong where.
Second, your appeal to the forum members about actions taken by its staff is not exactly professional behavior. If you wish to bring up something important to staff, you should try to contact us directly. The profiles of the entire moderating staff are easily accessible from the main forum page, and each one will provide you with the means to send us a private message or even contact us directly via instant messenger. To put it bluntly-
Do not drag the entire community into a discussion meant only for staff.
Third, to address your topic of concern, I regret not being the early responder for the actions that had apparently occurred this past week. I have read all of the posts that remain of "autopilotnocontrol" and his alleged aliases. While I personally don't know the exact reason for the ban, I have noticed that this person has apparently disrupted nearly every topic he posted in, and in some cases hijacked topics to discuss something better suited for a completely different topic and subforum. Given recent activity taken against this forum by spammers and trolls posing as legitimate forum members, this can easily be seen as a hostile act by another one of them.
Finally, while it is nice to see musicians with an interest in this discussion board, please be aware that while you are here, you are a member and a fan, not a superstar. Even if you are who you say you are, we have no way of knowing that, so showing up here waving a name is not an effective means to buy influence here. I will accept your post as that made by a concerned friend of someone we have banned. Nothing more, nothing less.

The only way I will believe he is Josh Homme is if he prints out an O&M strip, and takes a webcam video of him holding the strip and saying "Ozy and Millie rocks!"

I honestly don't think I recall the user autopilotnocontrol, perhaps this whole thing either happened during one of my busy weeks where I wasn't on much, or it happened so long ago that, due to other things in life, I don't remember anymore. Either way, if said member will be a positive influence to the board this time around, then by all means I might be willling to give a second chance. That's my opinion, anyway.

stuff
Ah I've seen this sort of thing before.
Let me cut through the cr** for you guys and provide a translation:
Hey I'm some famous guy, NOT autopilotnocontrol, who is also some famous guy, and I think you should unban m... him! Because he's a good friend with celebrities and all, which automagically makes him worthy of membership in a small forum of a couple dozen active members. And I am NOT using a turkish web proxy to get around my ban... err... his ban.. I mean... f***.
I hearby brand this thread with the dancing padlock, guaranteeing it's closure!
(If the powers that be will it.)
On a related note, I suggest any curious moderators do a reverse DNS on his IP as well as a port scan for open proxies.
By the way, this thread is in the wrong forum.

Dear Dr. Doog:
Because I've seen communities fall for this sort of thing before, the whole "I'll be nice now, really!" It just makes the administration and the forum rules look stupid when the same guy breaks the rules over and over and keeps getting let back in on his word alone.
And it is more accurate than you think. No hatin' here.
Your Pal,
Me

Who? I'm sorry, but names don't count for anything here.
You're already (obviously) carrying a boulder of suspicion on thin ice here because of your connection to the aforementioned banished member. It would be to your benefit to follow the rules, as
Tavis already outlined. As such, I wager that you would have a much better chance of being accepted if you would use an avatar that fits the size specifications.
Displays a small graphic image below your details in posts. Only one image can be displayed at a time, its width can be no greater than 127 pixels, the height no greater than 127 pixels, and the file size no more than 200 KB.
I am by no means a moderator, but I ask you to please resize or remove your avatar so it doesn't make every thread you post in unreadable. Otherwise, you're just melting your thin ice even quicker.
(I thought there was an auto-resizing function for avatars. Wasn't there?)

Not in vanilla phpBB, unfortunately...
