i'd like to actaully be able to see which threads have been posted in since i last read that thread, not since i last signed on. since sometimes i don't read a given thread everytime i sign on.

Me too, is there a way to put a little sign on the individual posts in a discussion that mean they were posted after my last read, or even sign-on (i'm not picky), i know this is possible, i've seen it elsewhere.

That sounds worth looking into.. unfortunately, I don't see such an option available to me. We'll have to bring it up with 5hfifty when he returns.

I've turned it into a habit to look through all newly posted topics before I sign out. It's rather annoying not knowing which posts are new and which threads have new posts and which boards have newly posted threads.

Haha.. I've been making it a habit to read ALL the new posts before I log out. These days it's been getting harder and harder to keep up; I cannot read it all in less than an hour if I only come twice a day.

AMEN! I definately need this. Those who talk to me over an instant messenger service know that i disconnect on average 2-3 times a night. When i get disconnected, i get signed out of dc, and therefor whatever topics i haven't looked at get marked as read. Horribly annoying

Aargh.. I hate it when that happens!! I've had that happen a lot whenever I am online for a while.

I've apparently taken to reading this between two and four in the morning. I don't know how people can keep up with multiple boards.

Giving the unread posts a different background color would be most visible. Wouldn't recording a table of which posts had been read by which user generate a lot of data?
i don't know either, but i'm trying to start. i can only imagine i'd be on both at the same time all day, two tab in mozilla, that's what i do now anyway, only i'm always here and nowhere else. i have no other life

i'm glad other ppl feel as i do!

and jacob- currently i get a little blue down arrow placed next to the thread name if there have been new posts since i last signed on, and usually the icon to the left changes colour.

no, that only works for the rest of your on-time. if you sign off, haven't read the thread, and there aren't any new posts, you lucked out for it.

Penguinita, that's for the threads, what i was reffering to was little signs in the individual posts (like this one) that indicate they were posted after my last visit or read.

I have way too little time to check all posts, so i just read the ones that interest me and completely avoid the games forum. That has too much happening on too many games i wouldn't be interested in anyway.

Indeed, the games forum is too fast-paced for me sometimes. Its fast pace killed everyone's atempts at the picture editing one, and it looks like even "Name that O&M Clip" has been sidelined as readers are less able to play it after reading everything else.

Umm, doesn't it do that anyways?
At least for me it does.

bsp- no it doesn't- it won't marek it if there are posts to a thread since you last read it if those posts occured prior to your last visit to the site.
