PHPbb

Wow... sorry to see you go Felix, I really wish you'd change your decision actually.
In my experience phpBB boards are the only boards I've been a member of that weren't hacked, but maybe they just had a competent staff at the time I was there, dunno. Apparently others have had a problem with it and their previous experience has left them scarred. I hope the way this conversation seems to be developing doesn't last much longer.

The problem with PHPbb, as far as I can tell (and this is based on other people's experience, which means it's all hearsay, so please correct me if I'm misinterpriting here), is that every other forum (as in, use, not use, use, not use, etc, not as in every other forum in existence) uses it, which makes it a prime target for hackers.
Combined with what I've heard about a lack of a decent system upgrade notification system, this can create a considerable problem.
The important thing here is the 'can', however.

Two things.
One: Regardless of whether or not this software is more vulnerable or not, the fact a change was done at all was a good idea. Only time will tell if this has ended the hacking problem. the fact that the incidents were occurring within a month of each other shows that something had to be done. As much as I would like to see more secure, free forum software with all the features we want, that simply doesn't exist. All of the alternatives have their shortcomings, so let's not gripe about it. Every implementation of forum software has a learning curve, and I believe this decision was based on that learning curve. The changeover was probably not easy for Likeafox, so choosing a simpler program would have been best for minimizing the transition time.
Two: Leaving a community in order to leverage your decision among the group is not what I consider an effective means of changing what you think is bad about the community. Frankly, I am getting sick of condoning this kind of activity simply because decisions like this had to be made.
Felix, if you feel you must leave this community behind, then go ahead. I haven't stopped you in previous times, and I won't start now. But know this: Regardless of what you think of any individuals here, you are always welcome to be a part of the community.
Edit: Finally, this topic belongs in either The Airport or Site Stuff. I'm choosing the latter since this is supposed to be more about the new forum implementation than the departure of a member.
