Ozy and Millie appeals to very young comic readers as well as others. Their probably are young elementary schoolers who keep up with Ozy and Millie. With help from their parents or without (there exist services that help young people use the net). Some of these people (with or without help from their parents) might become interested in the site. Their parents would not appreciate it and might even block this site if it gets too adult. While I don't believe in censorship I believe that some digression is needed to allow these readers to use this site as well. We don't want to turn off fandom to anyone when theyre that young do we?

The question becomes what the level of discretion should be?

I think obvious things to stay away from are direct use of clearly profane words (eg. f*** and s***). Also I think obviously adult meteors should not be used even if it's a non-offensive part of pop culture. Some parents have extreme standards and we shouldn't punish the kids for that.

P.S. I know I'm sounding nagging but I'm trying to keep this site accessible to anyone who wants to use it. If I didn't think we might be dealing with small children I wouldn't be so up tight.
Well, unlike some forums that I go to, this is not JUST for adults (or teens whatever it may be). You're right in that the O&M comics (and the forums) are for people of all ages. If it weren't the case, I doubt profanity, or certain subjects would be much of a problem.

I don't think anyone wants to get boycotted, eh?

I don't want to turn the censoring on, and I'm not banning any words, just keep the harsh words to a minimum. Words like damn should be okay, but don't swear for swearing's sake. That's just stupid.

I myself has no problem with swearing, but I don't recommend it on this board worse than 'sucks' or, at the very worst, 'damn'.
See?

I really think those parents who get all uptight if their kid hears a swear word have too much free time. Especially when it's not even a swear word like the word "sex."

But, yeah, we should try to keep this board PG to PG-13. Sure, that's much less fun, but we want more members, right? Right?

I think we should swear only just as much as swearing appears in Ozy and Millie. Makes sense, doesn't it?
Yes, I am thoroughly aware my avatar is a whole lot more appropriate on a certain other community I visit. But I don't care. Now, what are you going to do about it?

I agree with a lot of the people here. I don't mind cursing if it's in a facetious manner because it's funny and stupid to me, but otherwise just doing it because you "can" really turns me off. I, myself don't curse so I don't really promote nor abhor it either. Most of the times I ask my friends to keep the obscenity to a minimal.

I'm like sailor, but only if I get P.O.ed. Sorry if I slipped up at anytime.

I suggest just replacing words. For instance, someone taunts me (which probably won't happen here), I'd just say "Go fudge yourself, you melonfarming rocktucker!" That way, the older people on here will comprehend the meaning, and the youger ones will be scratching their heads.

Buh?

*scratches head* Hmm... My grandma does some melon farming. Quite good at raising watermelons and lots of other fruits in her gardens.

Actually, in my opinion, those phrases didn't have much meaning even before profanity was replaced with other words.

It's still glaringly obvious what the profanity happens to be. Just read it out loud.
