I agree with the Phoenix Police Department on this. Ok...before anyone gets too bent outta shape about this, just hear me out. For one thing, if she was in such a fragile and vunerable state as the lawyer for her family claims, then where the hell were they when she was headed to the rehab facility. Why was she alone? When my father was going through the worst of his bipolar disorder and it was recommended by the counselor he was talking to that he be hospitalized at a mental health facility about 75 miles away, did we just say ok you have the direction, good luck and safe travels...hell no. Mom got off work and me and my bro left school early and we went to the counselor's office and we took him down to the hospital, got him checked in safe and sound, and wished him the best. He's doing a sight better now than he was then. My point is that when you have a close family member going through depression or addiction, you don't leave them alone. That's what her husband and family did. The officers didn't have all the facts. They were dealing with what they thought was just a beligerant and disgruntled passenger. They didn't know about her psychiatric problems. As far as I can tell from my research into it, they followed all the proper procedures. If I were her father, I'd sue her damned husband for not being with her at this time cause if he was their at the time then her death could've been avoided. Bottom line...that husband doesn't deserve 8 million for her death. She obviously wasn't worth that much to him to begin with. If anything, he should be sued for wrongful death by the parents of the woman and the reward from that lawsuit should go to the three children who now have to pay not for any incompetence on the police's part but from there own father's incompetence. Sorry y'all...I've been venting about that all day since I saw the story this morning. Any judge with a small amount of common sense should not let this ever go to trial.

And I'm not keen on multimillion-dollar suits in the first place. The amounts are so arbitrary.

How can they have used excessive and unreasonable force on her if she accidentally hung herself? From what I hear, there is nothing that suggests police brutality...sounds like a standard arrest and jailing for disorderly conduct.

Oh it's just the usual greed of folks who already have tons of money to throw around on pricey lawyers like the mouthpiece Mr. Gotbaum hired. He blames the cops for his wife's death though common sense and pure logic shows that they did what they were supposed to do considering the info they had, which wasn't much, and the only one at fault here is his own stupid ass for not being their with her in the first place. Just rubs me in totally the wrong way. I do really feel for her kids though and her parents. That may be a moot point as the kids probably already have a sizable trust fund set up. Still all the money in the world can't replace their mommy.
