A Queens man is under arrest for putting a kinky spin on Scooby-Doo - and shagging, too.
Julio Quevedo, 43, faces jail time for peddling bogus costumes of popular cartoon characters to undercover investigators who told him they would be used for a triple-X fetish called "furry porn," cops said yesterday.

"There is a whole subculture engaged in that kind of activity," said one law enforcement source. "It certainly was different."

The bizarre behavior involves people dressing up in costumes or parts of costumes and having sex.

An investigator working for the firm that owns the cartoon trademarks bought Barney and Bob the Builder costumes from Quevedo last year, cops said. On Saturday, the investigator and a detective posed as husband-and-wife porn producers who told Quevedo they needed more costumes for a kinky movie.

Quevedo, of Jamaica, allegedly brought them to a warehouse in Queens, where they were offered dozens of costumes, including Barney, Bob the Builder, Thomas the Tank Engine, the Tasmanian Devil and Scooby-Doo.

Lawyers from HIT Entertainment and Warner Bros. later verified that the costumes, which were sold for about $250 each, were shoddy copies and that the real ones would cost thousands.

"There isn't a child around who doesn't watch the exploits of Dora the Explorer, Bob the Builder, Barney and Scooby-Doo," Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said. "To corrupt the image of these popular cartoon characters or have individuals of unknown backgrounds dressed in cheap-looking costumes in close proximity to young children is particularly troublesome."

Quevedo was arraigned Saturday on trademark counterfeiting charges before Queens Criminal Court Judge Fernando Camacho and released without bail.

Neither he nor his lawyer could be reached for comment.

I had misread this at first thinking they were holding him without bail, which would have been 'curel and unusual' for the crime. I still may call BS because a $250 suit? how would they even recognize the costume as scooby doo? the materials alone for even a terrible rendition would be at least that.

The arrest itself isn't so bad. The fact that he committed the offense in the first place is. I just hope the incident doesn't reinforce the stigma against furs with cleaner behavior.
