Send in the tanks to break down the prison wall and go get them?

Apparently, that's what UK forces have done in Basra today.

Iraqi officials state that UK forces staged a tank-led rescue on the prison where they were being held.

British officials state that their release was negotiated, but they DID accidently run through the wall in one of their tanks when they went to "pick them up."

Me? Well, it's pretty clear that the Iraqi population, or at least a good amount of it, would rather that all coalition forces just left. Sometimes I wonder if we shouldn't just pull them all out of Iraq and give them what they want, despite the probable chaos this would cause if the country is still unable to regulate itself.

If we did that it'd be the same thing that happened to the Dutch East Indies after the Dutch upped an buggered off, or Algeria after the French left, or French Indo China after they got beaten by the Vietmin.

Sad to say, now we're there, we've got to see it through or more people will die than if we stay.

Though it's pretty difficult to see how.

Yes, I thought that myself also Rooster, and I'm sure you will agree that it is this which makes the actions of some Iraqis so infuriating, if only that they fail to see how the coalition remains in Iraq primarily for its benefit.
