At least admitting that there is a problem is a babby step in the right direction.

This is the main reason I can't stand the Bush administration. I'm not such a cynic as to believe that he or any of his immediate subordinates specifically ordered or even condone these atrocities, but even an idiot could see that the best response is to acknowledge and then publicly condemn it rather than pretend it's not happening. The effect this is having is that people will, and do, believe the torturing was his idea and perceive him as a total monster. And only a total monster would condone something like this. The same kind of monster that people keep saying Saddam Hussein was.

That's actually the main reason I prefer to think of Bush as an incompetent leader rather than an "evil genius." I don't think I could handle it if our own President, much less one who claims to be a Christian, turned out to be the same kind of heartless monster as Saddam Hussein or Kim Jong Il.

I'd say he's an accomplice to the real evil genius(es).
